BREAKING NEWS: On Friday, December 21, it’s Doomsday. In simple terms, the end of the world. (Will it happen?)
You may have heard this a lot for years now. You may have literally saw this—in “2012” film (2009) directed by Roland Emmerich wherein it showed how the Earth suffered the wrath of extreme climate change. The big question in everyone’s mind is that; will the doomsday - 2012 prediction happen?

Doomsday on December 21 – Is it the End of the World? The Mayan Prophecy - The EARTH - NASA

What is Doomsday?

First, let us refresh your mind what doomsday is all about.

According to the dictionary, doomsday is the last day of the world’s existence, or what Christians believe as judgement day. This doomsday “prophecy” we are talking about that is supposed to happen on December 21, 2012 is related to the Mayan Long Count Calendar in which the aforementioned date was linked to the end of one of its cycles.

How the tale started?

The story basically started when a planet called Nibiru, which was told to be discovered by the ancient Sumerians, is supposed to collide with Earth. It was accounted to happen on May 2003 but since nothing occurred on that year, it was then linked to ancient Mayan calendar specifically on the solstice of 2012.

Will Doomsday happen?

NO, it won’t happen.

For the record, there are slightest reasons why it won’t happen.

1. The Mayan Calendar

When is the end date of your calendar? December 31, perhaps. But then, for the next year, you would buy another calendar for the start of another year and that’s the cycle.

That’s just how the Mayan calendar works as well. They started their count in 3114 BC and after 5,126 years, it will end on the predicted date, December 21, 2012. But then another long-count would happen and the next end date of the calendar would be on October 12, 4772 according to Discovery News. And another would happen for years to come.

2. The Alignment of the Planet

Alignment of planets happened before and nothing really bad happened on those years. Those alignments occurred in 1962, 1982, and 2000 and Earthlings are still alive until now. According to NASA, each December the Earth and sun align with the approximate center of the Milky Way Galaxy but that is an annual event of no consequence.

3. Existence of Nibiru

The Planet Nibiru or Planet X, as what others call it, is just an internet hoax. If it would indeed collapse with the Earth, the astronomers should’ve tracked it by now.

In this fast paced world, most things could already explain by science. And by science, we mean evidence. If doomsday is already around the corner, at least some scientist should’ve been able to cite some clues but since none were found, it could still be safe to say it won’t happen.
The Doomsday “prophecy” maybe not the end of this world but just a start of a new cycle.
Whatever happens on the 21st of December or on any other day, we must be ready. We should not just prepare because we were asked to. We should always be prepared because we have to.
